GMI, Inc. Security Officer Thwarts Burglary in Progress at Kimco Shopping Center!

On Sunday evening, June 28th, 2009 at approximately 11:20pm, security officer Tetloc Tut of Guard Management Inc. was performing patrol rounds at Del Norte Shopping Center, part of the Kimco Realty portfolio in San Diego, CA. Officer Tut spoke about the points leading up to him calling the police that night. “I was conducting a patrol of the exterior tenant spaces around 2320; when I noticed from a distance that the glass in suite 322 J, a vacant suite next to Radio Shack, was broken.” He investigated and saw suspects in the space so immediately called the police who responded within minutes. The first police officer entered the front of the store, tasering the suspect in the process, while the second police officer captured another suspect who was waiting behind the store in a getaway vehicle.

According to the San Diego Police Department, the suspects are allegedly part of a larger ring of burglaries that have targeted Radio Shacks and Game Stop locations throughout San Diego County for months.

Ron DeVaul, GMI Retail Security Branch Manager noted, “All in all this was a fine example of our site specific training paying off for our client. If our officer hadn’t been conducting his patrols within the systems we designed for the center, the likelihood of him being able to apprehend the suspects and stop them from breaking through the wall to Radio Shack would have been less than likely.”
Officer Tut will receive a meritorious service award commendation along with a monetary reward for outstanding service.
